Okay, so, I don't actually know how to express all of my thoughts about, feelings for, and opinions regarding Iron Man 3 in a way that doesn't involve flopping about on the ground like a fish out of water, so I'll just say: it was excellent. I'm THRILLED, and I want to see it a million more times. Personally I think it's the best of the three, and despite the rumors (completely unconfirmed, as far as I know) of more Iron Man movies coming our way, I...wish they would leave it here. Not that there isn't the possibility of future one topping this, but - this is a good place, you know?

Anyway. That's where I'm at today.

I agree about wishing they would leave it there. For now at least. Wrap Tony into the other parts of the world like so often happens in the comics and let his character rest for a bit. He's earned it.

That would totally work. He's had a complete character arc and everything's (mostly) tied up, so I think it'd be interesting to see him interacting more with the other Avengers (especially after the events of this movie).

Exactly! Not only was this movie presented as having a complete arc, but it also mostly effectively ends an overall arc for his character. I think the big challenge with this movie, as the first one back after Avengers, was to find a way to take the larger MCU and distill it back down to stories about certain characters after the world altering events of The Avengers. Before Avengers came out everything they did was build up to that, now the newer movies are likely to eventually become build ups to Avengers 2, but for the time being they're also about separating the different parts of the world again.

I feel like IM3 did a good job of that, and now that we've seen them do a good job of it we can slowly start to integrate all the separate working pieces into one another's lives again where it's appropriate.

I...I have a lot of Iron Man 3 feelings I didn't expect to have.

RET. RET. RHODEY. AND HOW AMAZINGLY COMPETENT HE IS HOW MUCH HE LETS TONY HAVE THE SPACE HE NEEDS TO HAVE WHILE STILL WATCHING OVER HIM BECAUSE SHIT SON, TONY IS HOLDING ON BY THE TIPS OF HIS FINGERS AND RHODEY KNOWS HE NEEDS SO MANY THINGS HE'S NEVER GOING TO ASK FOR. Like, not only in his life, but at the end during the fight. I loved their relationship in this movie and I'm glad we got to see it in this way. Like, now that we know Tony we're being allowed to explore what it means to be Tony and how under all of the bravado he's still worried he's never going to live up to what anyone wants of him and hard it is to let people love you when you feel that way. And that's BEFORE you consider that in his new life that means the people he loves could get killed because of him. That whole added worry is just floating on a layer of 'by why do they love me?' and it hurts but it's also very easy to connect to. And. I just love the relationships in this movie.

YES, YES. I thought there was a lot more...understanding? I guess? between the two of them this time around. Like, all throughout the second movie we had Tony being self-destructive and reckless and Rhodey being angry and worried about it - but Rhodey knows what was happening then now and he's wise to Tony's tricks (hiding in his workroom, pushing people away and building an army around him, etc.), so he's adjusted accordingly.

can i just, contonue on from this to say, that YES, UGH RHODEY. like, this time he wasnt just there to whine at tony and for tony to put up walls against, he was his own character who did stuff outside of his relationship with tony.

also, i loved loved how they all got to be badass outside of the suit? like before it was all super suits are super awesome (and we all know my love for the suits) and especially after avengers and tonys own comments about being a man in a can, that we got to see them being badass heroes with just their human flesh, just, ugh big damn heroes <333

YUP. Like, pretty much everything Rhodey did out of the suit made me dance internally. I love him in general, but he was SUPER AWESOME IN THIS MOVIE.

(Also, for the record: I loved loved loved that Pepper got to a) wear a suit, and b) saved Tony's life TWICE while he was out of his. Just. *flail*)

(Basically everything about this movie made me a happy Retbot. \o/)
