Man, you know what really sucks? The Monday back at work after a week's vacation. It's pretty much the worst. Luckily I have [livejournal.com profile] pocky_slash and Doug and Kyleigh around to wrap my computer monitor and phone in rubber bands while I'm gone, in spite of the 50/50 chance that I'd stab them all in retribution.

:D

Here, have some blurry pictures from my phone. )

\o/

Tonight I'm going home with Kait so I can see [livejournal.com profile] mcwonthelottery's face for a bit, and tomorrow is writing with [livejournal.com profile] sky_was_green! Posting at [livejournal.com profile] tw_holidays starts Saturday! I have a metric fuckton of work to do before Wednesday and need to avoid crawling under my desk for an extended session of gross sobbing!

Also I should probably start looking for people's presents. I think I know what I'm doing for Bella and Gavin and Evan, and Sarah and Kati should be easy. The little cousins...I don't even know. Maybe I'll chip in on whatever Cathy's getting them, but we'll see. I'm not really sure what they're into anyway. /shrug

...and maybe I should eat some real food at some point. Woman cannot live on rice krispie treats and chai lattes alone, or something.

So [livejournal.com profile] secret_mutant reveals went up! [livejournal.com profile] rakehell_leader is the person responsible for the ABSO-FUCKING-LUTELY WONDERFUL fic I received (which I linked to in this entry a few days ago, oh my god). I couldn't be happier or more grateful - it's truly a lovely piece, and it still makes my heart go all achy. <333

Uh, I ended up writing four stories altogether, three of which have been reposted at [livejournal.com profile] hardlyabird and AO3.

Lover, Come Hover for [livejournal.com profile] chiasmus, set in a non-powered modern AU - in which Charles is nervous about meeting Erik's old law school friends and needs some reassurance.

There's a Hope for [livejournal.com profile] big_banggang, where I just sort of ignored Cuba and made Erik and Charles have a snowball fight and then share a scarf.

It's Only Xenobiology, Darling for [livejournal.com profile] averzierlia, who wanted human!Erik encountering worstVulcanever!Charles.

I also wrote In the Night Life for [livejournal.com profile] nakedfiction, which is a fusion with the Parasol Protectorate series. I haven't reposted it anywhere for the very specific reason of it's not actually finished. Like, it stands on its own, no worries there! But there is SO MUCH MORE to be added to it. I've actually written another thousand or so words that just didn't make it to this version, mostly about bb!Charles playing chess with Professor Lyall, which I thought would confuse the fuck out of people if they haven't read the books already. So those scenes were cut for the exchange's purposes. The full story will appear in the future. Nebulous future, mind, but...yeah. *hand wave*

I just want to thank and give coffee and chocolate to [livejournal.com profile] pocky_slash for running the whole thing. She is the queen of all things mutant-related, got it? And you should all give her virtual hugs immediately. YOU'RE THE BEST, KAIT. <333

And now I'm gonna go read some of the comics I picked up earlier. \o/

So. I don't know if anyone's noticed, but my favorite webcomic is Hark! A Vagrant, and some of my icons are caps that I've taken, cropped, and resized for LJ. I'm not very good at doing this, though, so a lot of them end up being the text bubbles or whatever. Anyway, I made a bunch tonight, so I thought I'd share with any interested parties.

Nothing fancy done to any of them. If you end up taking any, just make sure you credit the comic? That's all I ask. :)

Good heavens, it's that awful velocipedestrienne. )

I'm reading this interview with William Gibson in The Paris Review, and I just came across this:

It’s harder to imagine the past that went away than it is to imagine the future. What we were prior to our latest batch of technology is, in a way, unknowable. It would be harder to accurately imagine what New York City was like the day before the advent of broadcast television than to imagine what it will be like after life-size broadcast holography comes online. But actually the New York without the television is more mysterious, because we’ve already been there and nobody paid any attention. That world is gone.

My great-grandfather was born into a world where there was no recorded music. It’s very, very difficult to conceive of a world in which there is no possibility of audio recording at all. Some people were extremely upset by the first Edison recordings. It nauseated them, terrified them. It sounded like the devil, they said, this evil unnatural technology that offered the potential of hearing the dead speak. We don’t think about that when we’re driving somewhere and turn on the radio. We take it for granted.

So, you know. Interesting. There are a lot of other things that come up through the course of the interview that are utterly fascinating to think about, so if you have some time, I suggest giving it a read-through. Even if you don't care about William Gibson, I mean, he says a lot of thought-provoking things that are relevant to writers of all sorts.

YOU GUYS. LET'S TALK ABOUT TONY STARK AND HOW MUCH I FUCKING LOVE HIM. BECAUSE I DO. A LOT. SO MUCH SO THAT I'VE SPENT A RIDICULOUS AMOUNT OF TIME ROCKING BACK AND FORTH IN MY CHAIR SINCE WATCHING THE AVENGERS TRAILER. IT'S JUST REALLY HARD TO CONTAIN MYSELF RIGHT NOW.

Kait: Tony Stark, who are you?
Me: What are you made of?
Kait: Candy. And $100 bills.
Me: And hookers.
Kait: And probably booze.

I HAVE SO MANY FEELINGS ABOUT THIS, OKAY? I LOVE HIM AND STEVE BICKERING WITH EACH OTHER, I LOVE HIM FANBOYING BRUCE, I LOVE HIM BEING COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY RESOLVED ON THE WHOLE PROTECTING-THE-EARTH THING.

EVERYTHING. EVERYTHING. *FLAILFLAIL* *flop* *twitch*
