Alright, friends, I need help on this chilly, yucky, rainy day. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to recommend all of your favorite songs about friendship, siblings, and other platonic love relationships to me. I'm working on a ~super sekrit project~ with/for [livejournal.com profile] pocky_slash, and I've sort of hit a wall with my music collection. Which is very new and weird for me, seeing as I...well, I have a LOT of songs. Like. Lots and lots. :D?

If you can provide downloads, that would be awesome! But if not, just provide me with the song title(s) and the band/artist name(s) and maybe a YouTube link, and I will find some way of procuring it on my own! It may even be something I already have and just didn't think of right away. And they don't have to be EXPLICITLY about platonic relationships, just not so over-the-top with the romance and whatnot, you know?

<333

EDIT: Erm, since [livejournal.com profile] metonymy asked, I should clarify - not parent/child! Mostly friendships and sibling relationships! Sorry!

OH HEY AND SPEAKING OF MUSICALS:

"For Good," Wicked
"Friendship" and "You're the Top", Anything Goes
"Two Lost Souls," Damn Yankees
"Big-Ass Rock," The Full Monty
"Friend Like Me," Aladdin (shut up it's a musical)
"Sisters," White Christmas
"Getting to Know You," The King and I
"Bosom Buddies," Mame
"The Jet Song," West Side Story (a gang counts, right?)
There are a bunch of songs in Side Show, because it is about conjoined twins, but they are of varying... seriousness? Since it's vaudeville-inspired.

I was thinking about it after driving you home the other night, and the first song off the mix I gave you might work.

That's the one! I mean, like I said, Dar has a ton of songs about friendship and other sorts of relationships, but since I know what you're looking for, I'm weeding out the ones that I don't think fit the specific criteria in your head XD

But "The Business of Things" (aka the song in the header of my LJ and one of the songs on my initial Charles/Erik mix) would also probably fit.

Heh, you weren't the only one, so maybe not? :D? I've never actually listened to the song, so IDK!

It is sad how few songs I know that fall within your criteria, and most were already listed.

...Stand by Me wasn't listed, and that's a friendship song!

I know, there's a sad lack of good songs just about friends and the like. And the only sibling song I could think of off the top of my head was Sister by The Nixons. :\

Thanks!

"Friend Like Me" from Aladdin, OBVIOUSLY.

Hello Saferide, "My Best Friend"
The White Stripes, "We're Going to Be Friends"
The Charms, "My Friends"
Cyndi Lauper, "Sisters of Avalon"
Tori Amos, "Bells for Her"
Rachael Sage, "Proof" (it works as a love song, but she wrote it for her friends!)
Rachael Sage, "My Eliza"
PJ Harvey, "O Stella"
Rihanna, "Umbrella"

Then there is the classic "Viva Forever" by the Spice Girls...

"Frankie and Johnny" by Garnet Rogers is about him and his late brother, Stan Rogers. It's gorgeous and heartachy and is the best song (... and possibly only song, hrm) about sibling relationships I can think of offhand. Melancholy, though.

"The Babysitter's Here" by Dar Williams might fit, and possibly "We Learned the Sea" by her as well. And I would argue that "Lost Coastlines" by Okkervil River is a pretty great friendship song, but that may be more contextual than the content of the song itself (it's basically about Jonathan Meiberg amicably leaving the band to concentrate on Shearwater; there's a real feeling of camaraderie it in). Also in the contextual-friendship category, Jeff Buckley recorded "Corpus Christi Carol" for his friend Roy, who got him into classical music, though the content of the song (by Benjamin Britten) has a romantic component.

Oh, definitely "Delilah" by the Dresden Dolls. And! "I See a Darkness" by Bonnie "Prince" Billy (I like the Johnny Cash cover of it even better than the original). "Screen Door" by Uncle Tupelo, too, and "I'll Be Your Mirror" by The Velvet Underground. And there's always "Bridge Over Troubled Water" by Simon & Garfunkel.

And, uh, "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables" from Les Miserables always struck me as a classic platonic friendship song, though extremely melancholy, of course. "The Drinking Song" by Moxy Fruvous is also an amazing in-memoriam friendship song, though again, not un-depressing.

[If there are specific ones you want to hear and are having trouble finding, let me know.]
