And we will find you saying it's to be
Oct. 27th, 2011 11:31 amAlright, friends, I need help on this chilly, yucky, rainy day. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to recommend all of your favorite songs about friendship, siblings, and other platonic love relationships to me. I'm working on a ~super sekrit project~ with/for
pocky_slash, and I've sort of hit a wall with my music collection. Which is very new and weird for me, seeing as I...well, I have a LOT of songs. Like. Lots and lots. :D?
If you can provide downloads, that would be awesome! But if not, just provide me with the song title(s) and the band/artist name(s) and maybe a YouTube link, and I will find some way of procuring it on my own! It may even be something I already have and just didn't think of right away. And they don't have to be EXPLICITLY about platonic relationships, just not so over-the-top with the romance and whatnot, you know?

EDIT: Erm, since
metonymy asked, I should clarify - not parent/child! Mostly friendships and sibling relationships! Sorry!

There are a bunch of songs in Side Show, because it is about conjoined twins, but they are of varying... seriousness? Since it's vaudeville-inspired.

Date: 2011-10-28 10:28 am (UTC)"The Babysitter's Here" by Dar Williams might fit, and possibly "We Learned the Sea" by her as well. And I would argue that "Lost Coastlines" by Okkervil River is a pretty great friendship song, but that may be more contextual than the content of the song itself (it's basically about Jonathan Meiberg amicably leaving the band to concentrate on Shearwater; there's a real feeling of camaraderie it in). Also in the contextual-friendship category, Jeff Buckley recorded "Corpus Christi Carol" for his friend Roy, who got him into classical music, though the content of the song (by Benjamin Britten) has a romantic component.
Oh, definitely "Delilah" by the Dresden Dolls. And! "I See a Darkness" by Bonnie "Prince" Billy (I like the Johnny Cash cover of it even better than the original). "Screen Door" by Uncle Tupelo, too, and "I'll Be Your Mirror" by The Velvet Underground. And there's always "Bridge Over Troubled Water" by Simon & Garfunkel.
And, uh, "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables" from Les Miserables always struck me as a classic platonic friendship song, though extremely melancholy, of course. "The Drinking Song" by Moxy Fruvous is also an amazing in-memoriam friendship song, though again, not un-depressing.
[If there are specific ones you want to hear and are having trouble finding, let me know.]
