Despite the fact that I'm not really reading fic all that much right now, I thought I ought to read my [livejournal.com profile] secret_mutant gift since it was posted this morning. I am SO GLAD I did, too. It is precisely the sort of bitter/dark/twisty/emotional wreck of a story that I needed right now, friends. It's incredibly painful and beautiful - and if that's your thing, you should definitely head over and read it, okay?

The Real Meeting, by anon. Charles/Erik, R. Some wounds never seem to heal, especially for Charles, and sometimes grief seems like an ever-present companion.

I was also the most pleased by the C.S. Lewis quotes at the beginning and end. And now I have to go read Out of the Silent Planet again. It's been too long.

Ooh, yay! I will go check that out. I'm really weirdly nervous about mine being posted--the one I wrote, I mean. IDK if it came off as I wanted it to and I dunno what people/the recipient are gonna think and...well, anyway, at least they're up. ;)

EXACTLY. And I'm SURE yours came out perfectly! But I hear ya - this one pinch hit I'm writing wanted a Victorian AU, and I'm all FUSION WITH A BOOK SERIES YOU MAY NOT HAVE READ SORRY *FLAIL*. XD I mean, it's always a crapshoot when it comes to fic exchanges and whether or not the recipient will like it, but I guess at the end of the day all that matters is you liking your finished product. :D?

That totally made me cry this morning when I read it. That is a most excellent gift.

I'm still waiting for mine.

It's so much better than anything I could have written/imagined, that's for sure. So stunning.
