Can I...can I just talk about Steve McGarrett for a few minutes? Is that okay? It better be, because OH MY FUCKING GOD.
Ki'ilua, I think? 2x10, either way. JESUS CHRIST, MY FEELINGS.
SO BASICALLY THIS EPISODE WAS A GIFT TO ME FROM THE UNIVERSE.
I have no idea what the general populace thinks of Jenna Kaye, but I get why she did what she did, and I still love her a lot. And Steve dropping everything in the middle of an investigation to help her out? Makes perfect sense to me. He TRUSTED her, he'd adopted her as one of his own, AND, as
starsparkle333 pointed out to me on Twitter just now, Steve has all the abandonment issues ever, so I completely, 100% see him risking his life to bring her to North Korea if it meant her getting her fiance back.
So then this happens -
Steve: Is that concern that I see?
Danny: Yeah, jerk, I'm concerned, big deal.
Steve: I'll be fine, alright? It's North Korea, what could go wrong?
Danny: Do me a favor and watch yourself, huh?
Steve: I'll think about you the whole time.
- and of course my heart soars, duh, but then they lost contact with Steve, and getting him home is the only thing that mattered to them. And, yeah, the murder investigation was neatly tied into the whole thing, but whatever! Steve!
(The other thing that got to me was that even though they knew Jenna had been lying to them about being in D.C., Danny still took her call and tried to get her to calm down in order to tell him where they were. So yeah, she messed up in a fatal way, but technically she'd still been one of them. Just. Stay with me on this one.)
And then and then and then on the airstrip! And Joe making sure each of them knew the risks and consequences of their actions! NOT ONE OF THEM SAYS ANYTHING. Not even Chin or Danny, who as far as we know are the ones leaving people behind - Malia and Grace - and have the most to lose, in a way, you know? So blah blah blah they get into South Korea and meet up with Joe's old buddy and go in.
BUT THE SCENE THAT I HAVE WATCHED FIVE TIMES TONIGHT - JUST. STEVE'S FACE WHEN DANNY LIFTS UP THE CLOTH ON THE BACK OF THE TRUCK, AND THEN WHEN HE SEES JOE AND CHIN. CHIN AND DANNY HELPING HIM BACK TO THE HELICOPTER. LORI RUSHING OUT TO HUG HIM. JOE SETTING STEVE ON THE FLOOR IN FRONT OF HIM AND NEVER TAKING HIS HANDS OFF HIS SHOULDERS. STEVE LOOKING AT DANNY LIKE HE'S ALL THE HOLIDAYS WRAPPED INTO ONE PERSON. HIS SHOCK WHEN CHIN ASKS HIM TO BE THE BEST MAN AT HIS WEDDING. HIS BIG WIDE GRIN WHEN DANNY TELLS CHIN NOT TO GET MARRIED AND THE JOKING AND THE EVERYTHING.
lsknflaknsclKND;KLANDSVLMSC;Lmsdc'lkm. Oh my goooooood, MY HEART, YOU GUYS. I HAVEN'T STOPPED SMILING YET.
And I said this to
tailoredshirt earlier - they need to have a team cuddle pile IMMEDIATELY. Like, I need a tag for this episode where Steve is recovering from being tortured and just demands that they all stay with him in his house, and then eventually he's like, GUYS MY BED WILL HOLD ALL OF US, I SWEAR, and they're just like WE SEE WHAT YOU'RE DOING, MCGARRETT but go snuggle with him anyway and then he's all happy because he has most of his favorite people within cuddle range. UNIVERSE, PLEASE PROVIDE THIS. THANK YOU.
I hope you all realize that when I started watching this show, I had zero intention of being this flaily, and not just in relation to Steve. I didn't even like him that much for the first half of season one, for christ's sake. SO WHATEVER, HOPE YOU'RE HAPPY, WORLD.

Date: 2012-02-17 03:40 am (UTC)I have a lot of feelings tied up in Steve McGarrett. I have since the first season. He has so many ISSUES. Daddy issues and problems with abandonment and family. BUT THEN HE HAS THE TEAM AND THEY ARE HIS NEW FAMILY BUT HE STILL ACTS LIKE HE DOESN'T DESERVE IT. And I just need everyone to give him hugs and tell him that they love him and that he is a wonderful person.
And yes, it makes perfect sense to me that Steve would drop everything for Jenna.
AND I HAVE TOO MANY FEELINGS, I DON'T KNOW HOW TO WORD ANYMORE.

Date: 2012-02-17 04:06 am (UTC)God, Danny's face when Jenna calls and he asks if Steve is still alive. MY HEART. And Jenna just killed me in that episode, I was so sad she died. I was just glad she didn't die a victim, though. She'd gotten herself in too deep, but she'd done it because she was willing to do whatever it took to get her fiance back, which took a lot of guts and conviction. So even though they killed her off, I really liked what they did with her.
GOD STEVE. Danny was my favorite character at first, but oh god, Steve. Steeeeeve. Steve's faaaaaace. Alex has the most expressive face and it just fucking kills me every time.
p.s. Korea ep was 2x10, not 2x9, just in case you're keeping track in case of spoilers.
P.S. Just realized that kitten fic has references to 2x14 not 2x13.

Date: 2012-02-17 02:00 pm (UTC)JENNA. <3 Could not get over her. And the way she just KNEW she had to do everything she could to help Steve out after she found Josh's body, and then going into his knee to get the pin - oh god. ;___; I agree, they did a great job with her. I wish she could have stuck around a little longer, but at least they didn't half-ass her ending.
*flail*
Ahaha, and I was looking at the .avi file when I was typing this entry up, so I really have no excuse for not putting 2x10. OOPS. Duly noted!
CANNOT WAIT TO READ THE KITTEN FIC. Just four more episodes!
