So I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that should be obvious but you have no idea about, or something obscure you just have to know. Ask away. All topics, within reason, are open for discussion.

In other news, today has been A Day. And it's only 1pm. >:|

Tell me what you want to DO with your life, Ret! Your IDEAL JOB SITUATION.

(What a terrible question. TOO BAD. I WANT TO KNOW.)

HERE IS THE HONEST TRUTH: I have no fucking clue. I mean, ideally I'd like to be paid a living wage to sit at home and read all day, but I think that's sort of a pipe dream.

Really, though, I have no idea. I went to college so I could spend four years reading. I don't have any passions that relate to any professions. I'm not really good at things, either? Which generally makes any flutter of ambition go away pretty quickly. Plus I find it nearly impossible to think about the future concretely, so. IDK. I'm good where I am for now, I'll figure out the rest later.

ME TOO, BRO.

Which is basically why I asked. I had a feeling we both felt similarly.

OH MAN, I COMPLETELY FORGOT. Well, that's not true. I remembered a couple times and even went to write a couple posts but then got distracted. I should really continue that.

first book you remember loving?

Brave New World - I read it for the first time when I was 12, and it drew me in utterly and completely, and sort of changed my perspective on society/humans/etc.? Or I should say, I started questioning the things my parents and the leaders of the community I grew up in were telling me as a result of reading it.

Yeah, I haven't read it in a while, either! I keep meaning to reread it and a bunch of others that I loved once upon a time, but I always end up getting distracted by other things. XD

I have seen, from stalking browsing your tumblrything, that you enjoy fashion? Is that more than a "PRETTY DRESS GRABBY HANDS" thing (like me)?

TELL ME ABOUT THE PRETTY DRESSES.

My interest in fashion is three-fold!

1) Fashion is shiny! and pretty! *grabby hands*

2) Fashion, more so in the last 60-70 years I think, has been in large part about art and expression! You can't really look at an Alexander McQueen dress and think, oh I'll wear that when I run down to the shop for some milk and eggs - you look at it and wonder about the structure and the materials used and the story it tells and feelings it evokes in you! Just watch Project Runway - even with casual wear challenges, you'll often hear the designers talk about the woman who wears this outfit and her story and what she's doing with her life. Which leads right into...

3) Fashion tells us a lot about culture and how it's developed over time and what was important to different socioeconomic groups, etc.! And all sorts of different cultures, too - like, lederhosen and dirndls in Bavaria and kimonos in Japan and corsets in Victorian-era England! It even extends to armor and weapons.

*jazz hands*

I guess since I know you because of Kait, I will ask: how did you meet Kait? And how did you get started working at the place you work?

So, in like March of 2010, I was still living with my parents and working at a call center and pretty much miserable. [livejournal.com profile] paper_tzipporah emailed me to say that she was going to be in NYC one weekend meeting up with some other fangirls for shenanigans. She was driving down with [livejournal.com profile] mcwonthelottery, who told Kait that she should also go into the city to meet up with everyone. And thus we met! And then I ended up staying at her house for another fangirl party a month later. And then I moved up to Boston a month after that, and she moved a few months later. :D

As for the job - our old department admin Ben was leaving to go backpacking through southeast Asia, and Kait hadn't found a full-time job or even worked a temp gig in a while? So I told her to apply and basically talked my bosses into giving her at least a pity interview. Luckily they liked her enough to take her on after that!

At the moment, no one. It'd be cool to see The Killers again, but I'm old and don't really want to deal with having to stand forever in a crowd of people anymore? And very few of the other bands/singers I'm interested in seeing are the sit-down type. /shrug
